Finding Your Purpose

There are a number questions that cross our minds over and over again as we embark on the journey known as the human experience. One of the most common questions is, “Why are we here?” It is a question I know I think about from time to time. There comes a stage in our lives when we begin to question our very existence. When we get tired of going through the motions of the day-to-day life and want to find something that sets our soul on fire. It is in these moments that we begin to seek out our purpose. I believe that the journey to finding our purpose is the answer to the question “why are we here”. In essence, our main task on this planet is to figure out why we are here.

Okay, so basically our purpose is to find our purpose. Awesome. But how do we do that? There are people all over the world who could dedicate their whole lives to finding their purpose and may never do it. How does one figure out what it is they are supposed to be doing? With so many different activities/jobs/careers out there, how do we know which one is for us? Some say to figure out what it is you like to do. To find what it is that you would do for free. It should be something that brightens your day and warms your heart.

Dr. Gibson, a spiritual leader and mentor, says, “You will know you have found your purpose when you wake up happy to work. You will find yourself happy and smiling at random times of the day, for no reason at all. That’s when you know you have found your purpose.” I believe that when we truly align with our purpose, we open ourselves up to a new level of possibility and success. We become more aware of the big picture of who we are and what we need to do in this lifetime. I have not yet discovered or became fully aware of my purpose yet, but I do believe I am getting close!

Have you figured out your purpose? If you have discovered your purpose in life and are pursing your passion, please share below in the comments. I am always curious to the discoveries people make about themselves.

  1. Ok, so you will smile for no reason, but how to find it? I think it’s like chasing a cosmic blue butterfly. Once you catch it it turns into something else. Shape shifts like a huge white cloud. Well at least it gives us something to do do.
No pun intended hun. Ok, I gotta run.

    1. I believe through self-love and reflection, your purpose reveals itself to you. I agree with your analogy of the butterfly and cloud. It does seem to shift. I say if you are enjoying the ride, you are on the right track!
